Court or official translations are made by court interpreters, who are appointed by a decree of the Ministry of Justice as permanent court interpreters.
Court interpreters are appointed for an unlimited period, with the right and duty that, upon the court’s request, they interpret at hearings or translate documents, thus ensuring their legal validity. They are indispensable for the conclusion of legal transactions with foreign companies and individuals, at public administration institutions, the courts, notaries, and similar bodies.
Court-sworn translators or interpreters are professionally qualified linguists, who have passed the exam for court interpreters and master at least two languages; usually their mother tongue and a foreign language. They are very familiar with legal terminology in both the original and target languages, as well as the appropriate legislation, and have civil liability for the content of the translated documents.
Court certified translations are most often required for submission of the following documents to administrative bodies and official institutions:
- certificates, certificates of schooling, certificates of diploma
- birth certificates, marriage certificates, certificates of marital status
- certificates of citizenship, passports
- police clearance certificates, police records
- health certificates
- Ajpes, extracts from the court register, certificates from tax authorities
- purchase contracts, authorizations, instruments of incorporation
- annual and financial reports, balance sheets
- decisions and judgements of the courts, notarial records, court registers
- certificates, patent applications …
Court translations are legally valid documents in Slovenia as well as abroad, bound with the original, a certified copy or a simple photocopy with a string. With their signature, stamp and statement of the adequacy of the translation, the court interpreters guarantee the integrity of the translation and the original.
ACCEPTANCE AND DELIVERY OF COURT CERTIFIED TRANSLATIONS
Court certified translations are accepted by post.
- If the translation is bound with the original or a certified copy of the original, send us the documents by post. The easiest way to obtain a certified copy is from the related administrative unit or a notary. In order to speed up production and delivery of a certified translation, send us a scanned document by e-mail in advance.
- If the translation does not need to be bound with the original and a simple copy is sufficient, you may send us a scanned document by e-mail. We will then send you a court certified document to your address by registered mail.
If the document with a signature certified by the notary is to be used abroad, it must also bear a stamp, known as an apostille, a special international certification of the signature’s authenticity, which may be given by a district court or the Ministry of Justice. An apostille is not needed if an international treaty states that it is not required.
We recommend you find out first if you need an apostille for your document, and only then submit it to us so that we produce a valid court certified translation for you.
Please, send us your enquiry or call us for further details of the court certified translation service we offer.
